My Art, My Heart

Welcome to the homepage of Ugandan artist Lutalo-Bbosa Dan, updated from Kampala, Uganda. Physical works are exhibited in My Art, My Heart - Uganda Art Gallery 2005. "My Art, My Heart" is a collection of my best paintings prepared from around 1991 to-date. Although prepared relatively recently, these paintings transcend age and time in terms of exploration of some of the largest influence on East Africa cultures and values. Here, I bring a rich repertoire which harnesses a contemporary and modern approach that documents vividly an art tradition in East Africa which traces its modern artistic roots way back to the 1950's. Using a mature and active palete, embedded with symbolic images and provocative titles, I try to depict cultural influences on modern society. The use of soft clear-cut, yet broadly executed brush strokes, creates a sense of graphical expression to which I owe much of influence in my approach. "My Art, My Heart" aims at pushing forward an era of indigenous expressionism began in the 1950's, greatly revived by art scholars around the late 1980's and in 1990's, which stressed a transformation from experimental subjects, to a medium which embraces African Cultures and values. It is to this school that I subscribe and owe much of my inspiration.
